Rust: Console Edition will be carving its own path separate from the game’s PC version in other ways as well. As we discussed earlier, Rust: Console Edition retains the core Rust experience, but it’s a separate version of the game, rather than being a slightly retooled version of Rust on PC. While that is a little disappointing – seeing as Rust already has a sizable install base on PC, which is something that could have been a great boost to the game on consoles right off the bat – it is understandable. While Rust: Console Edition will support cross-play across consoles (as we just discussed), it won’t have full cross-play functionalities, which is to say that the game’s console and PC versions won’t have cross compatibility. For instance, it’s been confirmed that Rust: Console Edition will support cross-play across both versions, which means players playing on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to play with and against each other. Most of that we won’t be able to judge until the game is actually out and we’ve put some time into it, but there are a few encouraging things that have been confirmed already. Rust is a multiplayer-only game, so it goes without saying that it’s going to live and die by its player base and how well it handles its online functionalities. According to Double Eleven, the studio has been working on Rust’s console port for some time now, and they’ve tried to ensure that the game not only retains the core experience of its PC counterpart, but is also optimized properly for consoles at the same time, so that it can provide an experience that is catered specifically for console players. Monday as the servers close we will be recording a special video featuring some of the most awesome farm designs we can find, the video will then be released on the next Dev Blog in April. The playtest servers will be under PVE rules so don’t worry about other players trying to raid your base, because that will not be possible. This will help us detect any potential issues and work on fixes for them. While building a farm, be sure to use as many of the new items as possible. There will be 10 different playtest servers spread across our supported regions and the goal is for everyone who wants to participate to build the most awesome farm they can create! This can be done individually or in a group. With the imminent release over on the Public Test Branch we want to test all of these new features and make sure they are performing as intended before we consider a release over on the main branch, so from March 31st to April 3rd we will host a special Community Playtest. Similar to electricity, you will have new items that will allow you to automate all of these processes. You will also be able to grow plants inside your base as long as you can provide them with light and water. ![]() If you combine the right genetics you will be able to have a very profitable farm in no time. For example, plants can now have different genetics and this will affect how fast the plants grow and how much can you harvest out of it. Planting and growing crops was possible before but with the new items and systems added in this update the process will now be a lot more engaging. Just like Power Surge, Cultivator will vastly expand on the way the game is meant to be played by adding a faster and more reliable way of growing your crops, helping you achieve self-sustainability when it comes to food resources, or creating a new way to generate scrap in case you decide to sell the fruits of your labour over at the Bandit Camp! This will be our 6th major content update, bringing Rust Console Edition even closer to the Steam version. Let’s start the Dev Blog with some exciting news!
